A wet belt is a timing belt that lives inside the engine and runs in the oil, rather than sitting dry behind a cover on the outside. It suits the packaging of a small three-cylinder engine, but it ties the belt’s life to the condition of the oil, so a Fiesta that has had long service intervals or the wrong grade of oil isn’t in the same position as one that has been looked after.
Not every Fiesta has one. The timing arrangement changes with engine and model year, and the 1.0 EcoBoost is the engine that brings most owners here, so we identify the engine from the reg and check what Ford specifies for it instead of applying one interval to every car. Where a Fiesta is already misbehaving, we read stored and pending codes and freeze-frame data at the OBD port, look at live data, and check the oil for the fine dark debris that a breaking-down belt leaves behind. Engine Warning Light On
None of those confirms a wet belt fault on its own, and one or two of them point somewhere else entirely. That’s why the inspection comes first: a Fiesta already showing an oil pressure warning often needs diagnosis before a straightforward preventative belt change can be priced at all.
These belts tend to break down rather than snap out of the blue. Flecks of rubber come off the belt, mix into the oil and travel round with it, and where they collect is the oil pickup. Once that starts to block, pressure at the top of the engine falls away and the camshafts and bearings are the first things to suffer. At that point you’re no longer paying for a belt.
The other outcome is timing. A belt that can’t hold the camshafts where they should be, or that lets go completely, stops the engine, and Ford is clear that a broken timing belt can take engine damage with it. So if your Fiesta has an oil pressure light on, has cut out, or has started making a noise it wasn’t making last week, don’t drive it over to us. Call and ask about recovery instead.
It starts with an inspection, not a figure over the phone. We identify the engine from the registration, go through what you know about the mileage and the service history, check the oil condition and inspect what the access allows, then put the work in writing: the wet belt kit and tensioner, any related oil-system parts, fluids and the labour. If what we find changes the job, you hear about it and approve it before we go any further. Wet belt work here starts from £599 + VAT, and the honest answer beyond that is that it depends on the car. Nationally the job sits broadly in the £600 to £1,200 and upwards bracket. What moves a particular Fiesta within that range is how much has to come off to reach the timing side, whether the oil pump or pickup needs renewing alongside the belt, the parts chosen, and recovery if the car can’t be driven in. We price the vehicle in front of us, and the figure you approve is the figure on the invoice.
A cheaper quote is not always the same job. Some cover the belt alone and leave out the tensioner, the seals, the oil and filter change the strip-down makes sensible, and any look at the oil pickup, all of which matter on a design that only survives on clean oil pressure. We don’t fit oil pumps as a matter of routine either. If we recommend one for your Fiesta it’s because of what the inspection found, and we’ll show you the reason before you agree to it.

Mainly the 1.0 EcoBoost petrol. Timing systems changed with engine and model year, so other Fiesta engines can use a different arrangement altogether. We'd rather check the registration than assume, and that takes a minute on the phone.
There's no single interval to copy across every car. Ford's own position is that timing belt requirements depend on the engine and how the vehicle is used, so we check what's specified for your engine and weigh it against age, mileage and servicing. Long oil intervals and a diet of short local journeys both count against a wet belt.
Yes to the first. A timing belt failure stops the engine and can cause serious internal damage, and belt debris in the oil system can do harm well before the belt itself gives up. And yes, we'll assess a Fiesta that has already stopped. Ask about recovery when you call rather than trying to get it here under its own power.
