If your car has started showing an oil pressure warning, rattles when you first start it, or you have been told the wet belt could be due, it is worth taking seriously. A worn wet belt can quickly move from a service concern to major engine damage.
At Medway Vehicle Services, we help Dartford drivers get wet belt problems checked before they turn into expensive repairs. Because the belt runs inside the engine oil, worn rubber can break away, block the oil pickup, and reduce oil pressure. We’ll confirm whether your engine uses a wet belt, check the condition properly, and explain the next step before any work is booked.

If you notice any of these signs, don’t wait till your belt goes. Call Medway Vehicle Services and we can get it resolved as soon as possible.

Poor Performance or Misfiring
Service History Shows It’s Due
Some wet belt concerns start after the oil pressure warning flickers on a cold start. A rattle at idle can have several causes, but it is worth mentioning during the inspection. In the worst cases, the car has already cut out, recovery has been called, and the driver has been told it could be a belt-in-oil problem.
When we inspect these engines, the pattern is usually the same. The wet belt has started to break down inside the oil system, shedding rubber particles into the sump. Those particles can block the oil pickup screen, which means the pump cannot draw oil properly. That can be when the warning light appears.
We treat that warning seriously. Up to a point, the job can still be recoverable. Leave it too long, and the engine can become starved of oil, which quickly turns a wet belt replacement into a much more expensive repair.
If the belt fails outright on a Ford EcoBoost or EcoBlue engine, the valves meet the pistons, and the head needs stripping. That’s a five-figure bill on most cars. The earlier failure mode, where the shed rubber blocks the oil pickup, ruins the oil pump and scores the bearings well before the belt breaks. Either route ends in an engine rebuild or a replacement engine.
If the oil light has come on, even briefly, the car is telling you it’s already past the easy-fix window. Ring us before you drive it any further. We won’t quote prices over the phone without seeing it, but we can tell you on the call whether yours is one of the affected engines and whether you should drive it or get it recovered.
The job is more than a like-for-like cambelt swap. The front of the engine comes off, the sump comes down, and the oil pickup is inspected for belt debris. A wet belt replacement typically covers the belt, the tensioner, the oil pump pickup, and an oil and filter change with the correct specification oil for the engine.
We use parts from GSF Car Parts and Euro Car Parts, named trade suppliers, which we source directly. We won’t fit a new wet belt over a worn oil pump. If the pickup is blocked or the pump is showing signs of strain, we stop, ring you, and provide an updated quote before the repair continues. That is the call most jobs come back to us for.

We’re based at Unit 3 Cliffe Yard, Anthonys Way, on the Medway City Estate in Rochester. From Ashford, many drivers use the M20 westbound, then the A249 north towards the M2, before following the A289 onto Medway City Estate. It’s around 37 miles and 50 minutes in normal weekday traffic, longer if you’re coming during the morning peak.
Most Ashford drivers drop the car off in the morning and either wait at one of the cafes on the estate, get a lift back, or pick up at the end of the day. If recovery is needed because the oil light has been on, ring us before you book the truck. We can usually take the car straight in once it arrives.
Pricing depends on the engine, what we find when the front cover comes off, and whether the oil pump pickup needs replacing. We quote in writing after the inspection, before any parts are ordered. No hidden extras. If the inspection shows the job has grown, we ring you and re-quote before we carry on.
If you’d like a ballpark before you commit to the drive over, ring us with the registration, and we’ll tell you which engine you have, what the typical scope is for that engine, and what the inspection itself involves.

The most common Ford wet-belt enquiries listed by Medway Vehicle Services are Fiesta, Focus, Transit, and other Ford wet-belt-equipped vehicles, depending on engine and year. The same belt-in-oil design appears on a handful of other manufacturer engines, including some PSA group units. Ring us with the registration, and we'll tell you which family your engine falls into.
On most jobs, the strip, inspect, and quote happens on the first day. The replacement itself is typically a one-day job once parts are in, but it depends on what the inspection finds and on parts availability. We give you the timeline in writing with the quote, so you know before you sign off.
No, not if the light is on while you're driving. A brief flicker on a cold start that goes out is different from a steady light at running speed. If you've had a steady light, ring us before you set off. We'll talk through whether recovery is the safer call.
Yes. We work with private drivers and fleet operators across Medway and Kent. Fleet jobs run on the same inspection-led basis, with the written quote and re-quote rule applied the same way. Ring us with the fleet vehicle's registration, and we'll book it in.
We’ll pause the work, contact you, and explain what it is and the cost. Nothing extra gets done without your say-so. If you'd rather we leave it alone and finish the job as quoted, that's fine.
We use trusted, high-grade parts from GSF Car Parts and Euro Car Parts. If you want a specific brand on a specific part, tell us when you ring, and we'll source it where we can and adjust the quote accordingly.
