Ford 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt engines are commonly associated with models such as the Fiesta, Focus, EcoSport, Mondeo, C-Max, Transit Connect, and Puma, depending on year and engine code. Some later 1.0 EcoBoost versions moved to a timing-chain cam drive, but specifications vary by model, year, and engine code. Some Ford EcoBoost and EcoBlue engines use belt-in-oil designs, but this should be checked by registration or engine code. Some Peugeot, Citroen, and other manufacturers' engines also use belt-in-oil designs. If you are not sure whether your engine is affected, give us your registration, and we will check.
Possible warning signs include a rattle or slapping noise from the engine bay on cold start that clears once oil pressure builds, a low oil pressure warning light, rough idling or hesitation under load, and visible rubber particles when the oil filter is changed. If your car shows any of these, book an inspection rather than continuing to drive it.
We would not recommend it. An oil pressure warning on a wet belt engine is a sign that debris may already be partially blocking the oil pickup. Continuing to run the engine under those conditions risks bearing damage. Ring us, and we can talk through the options. In some cases, getting the car transported is the right call.
We confirm the hand-back time on the inspection morning once we have seen what the job involves. Wet belt work is not a like-for-like cambelt swap, and we do not quote a timeframe before we know what we are dealing with.
