Wet belts can fail quietly before they cause obvious symptoms. As the belt breaks down inside the engine, debris can block the oil pump pickup, leading to oil pressure problems and expensive engine damage.
At Medway Vehicle Services in Rochester, we start with inspection and diagnosis before advising on wet belt replacement. We inspect the vehicle and explain the findings before quoting in writing, so you know what is needed before any replacement work goes ahead.

Many drivers come to us when a wet belt concern has already been raised. We may be contacted because a service has flagged the belt as due, the oil pressure light has flickered or stayed on, or the owner has seen warnings from forums or owner groups about their engine. Whatever has prompted the concern, we always recommend a proper inspection before assuming the worst.
The wet belt runs inside the engine and is lubricated by engine oil. As the belt material starts to break down, it can shed debris into the oil system. This debris can block the oil pump pickup and reduce oil pressure. We treat an oil pressure warning seriously because, if left unchecked, wet belt damage can lead to much bigger engine problems.
We do not recommend ignoring wet belt concerns. A failing wet belt does not always snap suddenly. In many cases, the risk builds gradually as belt debris blocks the oil pickup and reduces lubrication to the lower part of the engine. By the time the oil pressure light stays on, internal damage may already have started.
We advise getting the vehicle checked promptly because the belt runs in the same oil system, which can be contaminated. Replacing a wet belt at the right time can still be a significant repair, but it is usually far better than dealing with an engine that has suffered oil pressure loss.
We treat engine repair work as inspection-led. The first appointment starts with an inspection and diagnosis to confirm what needs attention. Once we can see what is there, we quote in writing.
The replacement itself is quoted around the parts and checks your engine needs, which may include the belt, tensioner, oil system checks, fresh oil, and a new filter. Before the car leaves, it goes through a road test with a scan tool plugged in to confirm oil pressure and that the engine runs are clean.
We are based at Medway City Estate in Rochester, with main road access from most of Kent. From Maidstone, many drivers reach us via the M20 and M2. From Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, or the Cranbrook side, routes usually come through the A21 and A229. From Canterbury or Ashford, drivers can plan a route toward Rochester using the main Kent road network.
Drop-off is straightforward. Most owners leave the car with us for the strip-down day, and we agree on the next steps before any further work. If the journey is not safe with a steady oil pressure light, ring us before you set off, and we will talk through the options.
Pricing depends on the engine, the state of the oil pump pickup, and what else needs replacing once the front of the engine is open. We quote in writing after the inspection.
We do not quote prices over the phone without seeing the job because the variation between a clean strip-down and one that needs the pickup, the seals, or further work is significant. If you want a working figure before you book, ring us with the registration, and we can talk through what is typical for that engine family.
The inspection is itemised in writing before the replacement is booked. If the strip-down shows the belt is fine and not yet at the wear threshold, the inspection is what you pay for, and the engine goes back together.
We do not carry on with the replacement until you have signed off on the quote in writing. No surprise charges arrive after the work is done.
Step one is the call or email with your registration. We will confirm whether your engine uses a wet belt and book the inspection day.
Step two is the strip-down day, after which we send the written quote with photographs of the pickup and the belt. Step three is the replacement, then the road test, then hand-back with a brief on what was changed and what is left to watch.
The wet belt design appears across certain Ford engines, including some 1.0 EcoBoost and 1.5 EcoBlue engines, and some PSA/Stellantis PureTech engines. If you give us the registration plate, we'll confirm whether your specific engine uses one.
The strip-down is usually a single day for most engines. The replacement itself depends on whether the oil pump pickup needs work, whether seals need replacing, and whether the engine has any other issues that surface during the inspection. We give a realistic timeline once we have seen the job.
Not safely. A steady oil pressure light means the pump is not holding pressure, and continuing to drive can cause bottom-end damage. Ring us before you set off so we can talk through recovery options.
Wet belt work is specialist enough that not every garage takes it on regularly. A 30 to 60-minute drive to a workshop that handles the design routinely is usually less hassle than booking somewhere unfamiliar with the job.
We use trusted, high-quality parts and explain the options before work begins. If you would rather we use a specific aftermarket spec, tell us at the quote stage, and we will price both options.
